The Great Dane's Modelrailroads

Hey, it's difficult to be humble when you're the greatest ;-)

It's often said that in a modelrailroader's ideal world there would be no house in the way!

Model railroading is FUN
Jump right on in and get your feet wet. I've "played  with trains" for more than 60 years and I'm still not through with it :-)
Maybe when I get old I'll think about it but until then ...
Nah, that way lies madness, I'm too busy having fun.

Old modelrailroaders never die, they just lose track!

By the way, this site is likely to be updated at any old time at all, if I should happen to think of it :-)

My main layout, SWRR, is now in the process of being torn down for a total re-build. As part of the rebuilding it is my intention to try to incorporate the portable layout into the main layout and yet still maintaining the portablility aspect of this litlle layout.  Can I do it? well, we shall see, time will tell.
This activity will take place over the next few months.
If I can tear myself away from it now and then, I shall try to put in a few pictures to show how it progresses.
Tentative date of completion ,well sort of:  spring of 2005.

Demolition has started.
Close to 1500 trees have been uprooted so far with another 1000 or so to go. It hurts, every one of them was planted separately over a long period of time.

Well, not overly much has been done on the layout over the past few months due to having had a major fire in my workshop last spring. (The workshop is fortunately located in a seperate building down in the back of the garden and not attached to the house at all).
That is now pretty well behind me and the shop is functional again, more or less. Mind you, it is only a hobby workshop but nevertheless fully equipped, however all the machinery had to be replaced or repaired and the walls and ceiling redone and painted, phew!.
As work now slowly is coming back up to speed in the basement I have had a change of heart and the layout is now under digital command control. For those who are not familiar with this concept , as most modelrailroaders nowadays know, this means that each locomotive is under independant control regardless of  where it is located on the layout. This has naturally also resulted in a major rework of  the locomotive fleet to install decoders in the majority of them. In addition the layout wiring practice had to change and the that work is still in progress.
This site will slowly be changed as time goes on and new pages will be added to reflect the changes.
Stay tuned.

Feb. 2012
The Port Abel Terminal RR has been dismantled.
The main railroad SouthWestern has had a major rebuild and had been expanded.
The control system has been changed over to DCC (Digital Command Control)
The logistics and operations system has been overhauled.

In the near future all the pictures will be updated to reflect these changes.
